What motivated you to open your online shop?
Our business was founded as a hobby. In fact, the name of the company suggests that it started out as a hobby. However, in the early 2000’s our son became a fan of Bakugan, a new toy. New figures in this series were difficult to find at the time and often came in mystery form. It was difficult to find the “newest and most coolest” figures. We came up with the idea to create a website that would allow us to sell difficult-to-find toys to people who wanted to expand their hobby collections. We have expanded our product range to include more mystery and blind box items as we grow.
What’s your favorite thing about running an ecommerce company?
You are no longer restricted to a retail setting. It is an online-only business which can make it difficult to interact with customers in person. The perks are a big plus. Unlike the hectic interaction in a physical retail store, customers can contact us at their convenience and we will respond promptly. This allows for a more personal, relaxed experience. It’s just so cool to see pictures of figures we have sold displayed in a customer’s extensive collection. It’s a huge reward to be able to say “thank you” and make it possible. We don’t have to follow a set schedule and can adjust our work hours to meet the demands of our customers.
Our business is toys! The second favorite part of our business is the ability to find new items to add to the site. Receiving them is also a lot of fun.
What is your favorite thing about Volusion’s eCommerce solution?
Volusion has been an excellent partner since the beginning. Volusion has been a solid partner from the beginning. They have always been there for us when we needed them and provided professional and quick solutions. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you have received regarding running your business?
Take today as a chance to enjoy tomorrow. Hobbymeister is a place we love and are passionate about. The best part about Hobbymeister is the many new inventory arrivals throughout the week. The toy industry is constantly changing and evolving. This requires constant research on everything, from the latest movies, TV shows, and what is hot for the holidays. So that we can decide when to bring in product. We must not lose sight of the fact that a lot of our purchasing needs to be done months ahead.
What is the future for your business?
Hobbymeister looks forward to a bright future. The pandemic brought many challenges and issues, but it also provided a new opportunity for growth. Many of our customers, who weren’t big online shoppers before, have found the convenience and time-savings of shopping online. We are looking forward to expanding both our customer base and our inventory.
