Introduction
X, formerly known as Twitter, has undergone significant changes since November 2023. One of the most notable is its paid tier, X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue), which has seen numerous updates and additions to its features. If you’re considering subscribing to X Premium, I’ve got you covered. I paid for the subscription and tracked my content’s performance over 90 days to help you decide if it’s worth it.
What is X Premium?
X Premium is a paid subscription service designed to enhance the user experience on the platform. It offers additional features and comes in three tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium+. The Basic tier costs $3 a month, while the Premium tier (which I tried) costs $8 a month. The Premium+ tier is priced at $16 a month and includes a few extra features. Let’s take a closer look at what X Premium offers.
Exploring the Core Features
X Premium provides users with a range of features to enhance their experience on the platform. Here are some of the key features that I found most relevant for creators and small business owners:
Edit Post
This feature allows you to edit your tweets within an hour of posting. It’s useful for correcting errors, updating information, and enhancing clarity. However, it does have limitations, such as a one-hour editing window and restrictions on the number of edits allowed.
Longer Posts
X Premium expands the character limit for tweets up to 25,000. This feature allows you to delve deeper into topics and create more comprehensive content. Keep in mind that longer posts may deter some readers.
Prioritized Rankings in Replies
This feature boosts the visibility of user interactions, increasing engagement and reach. However, its effectiveness may vary depending on your audience’s activity. For most people, this may not be a top priority, and direct messaging or quoting tweets may be more effective for visibility.
Bookmark Folders and Custom App Icons
X Premium allows you to organize your content with bookmark folders and personalize your app icons. This feature is helpful for research, content curation, and creating a personalized experience. It adds both organizational and aesthetic value to your X experience.
Blue Checkmark
The Premium and Premium+ tiers offer a blue checkmark, which is a verification symbol for profiles. It adds credibility and recognition to your account. However, the verification process and eligibility criteria may be barriers for some users.
Revenue Sharing and Creator Subscriptions
For Premium and Premium+ subscribers, X offers monetization options through revenue sharing and creator subscriptions. These features provide new revenue streams and make the platform financially viable for creators. However, the benefits may depend on the size of your audience and their level of engagement.
Ad Reduction
Premium and Premium+ subscribers experience reduced ad presence on the platform. This feature provides a cleaner browsing experience with fewer distractions. However, it does not eliminate ads entirely.
Longer Video Uploads
X Premium extends the video upload limits, allowing you to upload longer videos. This feature is especially beneficial if you primarily share video content. Keep in mind that the feature may be limited to specific platforms and devices.
My Personal Experience with X Premium
As a content creator, I was initially unsure about subscribing to X Premium. However, after trying it for three months, I found some valuable benefits. Here are the highlights of my experience:
I received helpful questions from my audience about using X Premium, which guided my content creation during the experiment.
Before subscribing, I posted more frequently and saw higher engagement. However, after subscribing, even with fewer posts, the quality of engagement remained high.
While X’s analytics may have inconsistencies, it’s clear that subscribing to X Premium enhanced the reach and impact of my content.
Is X Premium Right for You?
If you’re looking to grow an engaged audience, especially with text-driven content, X Premium is likely a good fit for you. Features like editing and longer-form content creation are invaluable for maintaining quality and depth. The prioritized rankings in replies also help in engaging with your community and growing your audience.
However, X Premium has its limitations. Features like revenue sharing and creator subscriptions may be more beneficial for those with an established follower base. If you’re newer or have a small audience, the monetization benefits may not be immediately tangible.
Ultimately, before investing in X Premium, consider the incremental benefits of engagement and reach, as well as the small upgrades, against your finances. For smaller accounts or those just starting, it’s important to weigh the costs and benefits before subscribing.
