How to curate content with Scoop.it

February 4, 2022 By Walt wintertree Leave a Comment

If you have been around for a while you will know that we are always discussing how content curation can be used to help businesses succeed.

Strategic content curation can be beneficial for any industry or company.

It can turn your employees into your greatest advocates and your sales reps into top-selling professionals.

Content curation can increase the effectiveness of your email newsletters and your social media channels, blogs, and content hubs. It can even help your eCommerce store attract more customers.

This guide will explain how Scoop.it can help your company achieve success in content curation.

We are taking you on a Scoop.it Tour. Let’s get started!

Add the URL of your content to your Scoop.it topic pages.

You may be interested in a simple way to share industry news, reports and expert thought pieces with your network if you spend a lot of time reading them.

It’s super simple with Scoop.it topics.

You will first create one or more topic pages about the topics that you wish to curate content. These topics should be relevant to your products or services as well as the topics that are important to you and your employees.

Simply paste the link to the content you just read or watched into a topic.

You’ll be able to:

  • Contribute your insight
  • Select social media channels to share this content.
  • To edit the description, image or tags, enter edit mode
  • Choose whether you want to post now, or later.

This can be done whenever you find a piece of content that you think is worth sharing.

Scoop.it Bookmarklet allows you to add new content

This is a very simple process. What if you could add blog posts, videos and other content to your Scoop.it topic even easier?

The Scoop.it Bookmarklet makes it easy to do this on the go. You don’t even need to leave the content you are reading!

Open the Scoop.it Bookmarklet Page to add the Bookmarklet. It will be added to your bookmarks. Click the button below to copy the text from the textbox.

Next, go to the bookmark you just created. You can edit the bookmark and replace the URL with the text that you have copied.

After you have done this, you can bookmark any website on the internet.

Simply click the bookmark when you are on a page that you want to add to your Scoop.it topic.

The box below will open. You’ll need to choose Destination for the Scoop.it topic that you want to add this piece.

You’ll then see all the options for editing the piece you are scooping, including adding insights, social media sharing, editing description, tags and choosing when you want to publish.

Save time!

Use the Scoop.it content suggestion engine

It’s easy to curate content that you already consume.

What if you have a very busy week?

  • Are you too busy to keep up with industry news?
  • You don’t have the time or desire to curate every piece of content that you find.
  • You don’t want to miss your main channels, but you can’t go.

This is when you need some assistance.

This help is located in the top right corner on your topic pages in Scoop.it.

Click Suggestions to open a search engine that will give you as many suggestions as you want and allow you to refine your criteria to find the best.

You can choose, as you can see.

  • If the content must match your search term exactly
  • What age can the content be?
  • Sorting by relevance and freshness
  • Filtering by format types: articles, documents and photos, videos, and social media

The pieces can be published (or scheduled for later), saved for later, or flagged as insignificant or discarded altogether.

Automatically curate trusted sites using RSS feeds or sitemaps

Are you a follower of blogs and publications that publish valuable content?

You can also skip manual content curation.

Instead of curating with URLs added to your Scoop.it topic or using the Scoop.it Bookmarklet you can add an RSS feed to your topic or a sitemap.

Scoop.it will then keep an eye on these sources, and add them to your Scoop.it Topic when they become live.

It is also very easy to set it up. Click Settings in your Scoop.it topic. Next, click Automatic Content Import.

To add an RSS feed click a button, then enter your feed URL:

Here are two ways to find out the RSS feed URL if you are unsure:

  1. Enter the publication URL including the https ://,, and then add /feed at the end. This is for WordPress websites.
  2. If this fails, right-click on the page of the website and select Page Source. Next, click on the page and choose Page Source. The URL of the feed is located between the quotes after “href=”.

Once you have added all the sources that you wish to automatically add to your Scoop.it Topic, you can manage them on the same page within your topic’s settings.

Just like that, your Scoop.it topic has already been packed with content you already trust and love, even during busy times. Magic!

Upload content that’s not tied to a URL

You would like to share an infographic or graph, or even a research paper, in a PDF file. However, you need them as a file and not on a URL.

It’s simple and fast. Select Scoop without link, or upload your own document from the Scoop.it topic page.

Next, add all elements to the file or document.

Description and title are mandatory fields. These fields are great for adding attention-grabbing copy. They also make it easy to clarify the purpose of the content you’re collecting. This is the same approach that you would use for a blog post.

You can also add your insight in another field. Tag this scoop to make it easy to find later and share it directly on social media on the date and times you choose.

These options allow you to share images, text, Microsoft Office files and PDFs.

Available to – Scoop without linking to Scoop.it Plus Enterprise users. Upload your document to Enterprise users

Scoop.it’s advanced suggestion engine is available

Are you looking for more sophisticated recommendations for content?

Are you more likely to have them in your inbox than running a search everytime?

Do you want content on the same topics week after week?

All of these tasks can be automated with the advanced suggestion engine at Scoop.it Enterprise.

This dashboard displays all of your search results. It can be used to grab these content items to your Scoop.it topic and toggle between your saved search from the menu to the left.

It is simple to add new saved searches. Just click on the New search button to the left and type your keywords.

The best thing about the advanced suggestions engine are the details you can use with your searches.

You can click Edit to modify any saved search and get more specific information about the content suggestions that you would like.

These are the elements that you can use.

  • You can search within the title, content or domain.
  • Contained or not containing all or some of the words that you have entered
  • Modifiers for Boolean Search: You can exclude or include results using AND and OR search parameters
  • You can set up email alerts to receive content matching your search.
  • Filters to format content, such as articles and videos.

The best part? The best part? You can simply view your searches or your emails regularly with Scoop.it.

To ensure you don’t miss anything, monitor content from your competitor or your own.

You can do it if you…

  • You can quickly track all content sources that you trust to curate.
  • Monitor the content of your competitors, including their blogs and social media.
  • You should keep an eye on your content feeds. This includes your RSS feeds and social accounts.

You can do it from one screen in Scoop.it Content Monitoring.

You can add as many sources you wish by clicking Manage Sources in your Content Monitoring dashboard.

Scoop.it allows you to add links, such as Facebook pages and Twitter lists. If you have an OPML file, you can upload it with a list source list.

Once you have added all your sources, you can arrange them on the right-handside by dragging them and dropping them in the desired position. You’ll find them organized and easily accessible when you work from your Content Monitoring dashboard.

Available to: Scoop.it Enterprise users

Ask your colleagues to contribute content for your Scoop.it topics

After you have set up your Scoop.it account to ensure success through suggestions and automated curation, monitoring, and reporting, the next step is to get your employees involved in your content curation.

You and your team might have used email or Slack messages in the past to share great content.

Scoop.it can now be used to eliminate friction in emails and messages. Instead, all content is automatically inserted into the Scoop.it topic you choose.

This is how it looks:

This setup doesn’t let you scoop a post with or without links. Instead, it asks you for suggestions. You can either add a suggestion or define who can scoop in your Scoop.it Enterprise account.

You can make your employees and team the best content curation engine by this method without adding additional obstacles.

They just need to add the content to the topic and they’re done!

Available to: Scoop.it Enterprise users

Scoop.it allows you to curate content immediately

Content curation is a powerful strategy to grow your business. But you might not have realized it was time-consuming or difficult to prioritize.

It doesn’t have that way. You can automate large parts of the process so that you can concentrate on the areas where you have the greatest impact.

Scoop.it can help you achieve this. Scoop.it Enterprise is available for free if this tour has shown you the possibility to succeed with curated material.
