It can be difficult to choose the best social media management tool for your account. We compare Buffer and Tailwind in this blog to help you make a decision based on the key differences between these two platforms.
Here are the seven main differences between these two products, which all users should be aware.
Seven key differences
1. There are many channels available.
Tailwind only offers three social media channels: Instagram (the most popular), Facebook (second), and Pinterest. Buffer, on the other hand, supports 10 channels including LinkedIn, Mastodon and Twitter. TikTok is also supported, as well as Shopify, Google Business Profiles and Google Business Profiles. Buffer’s wider selection of channels allows users to reach more people.
2. Free Plans
Buffer offers a free plan that allows users to schedule 30 posts. Tailwind only allows 20 posts. Buffer allows you to connect as many channels as you want. You want to connect three Mastodon Accounts? No problem. You can connect your Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. That’s fine. Tailwind does not offer the same level of flexibility. It only allows free users to connect one Instagram account, one Pinterest account, and one Facebook profile.
3. Number of Users
Buffer’s Team plan allows unlimited users, while Tailwind’s “Max” plan only allows five users. This is despite both plans having a similar cost ($45 for Buffer and $40 for Tailwind). Overall, Buffer is a better plan that can scale for teams growing.
4. Scheduled Posts
Tailwind’s Pro Plan only allows 100 posts to be scheduled per month. Buffer’s Essentials Plan, which is priced the same as Tailwind Pro, offers a generous allowance of up to 2,000 posts per week per channel. The majority of social media marketers who want to maintain an active social media profile will schedule more than 100 articles. Tailwind’s limited plan may cause marketers to look elsewhere.
5. Restriction on Channel Allocation
Tailwind limits users to a maximum nine social media accounts. This is true even for the most expensive plans. The plan also requires that you have a combination of three Pinterest, three Instagram, and three Facebook accounts. It can be frustrating to have such limited flexibility. A brand is unlikely to have three Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram accounts. Buffer has no limit on how many social media accounts can be connected. It also does not restrict which channels you choose.
6. Artificial Intelligence
Tailwind’s Max plan only allows users 500 AI credits. The users of that plan are limited to only 500 uses, which can quickly add up for accounts with many users. Buffer’s plan is equivalent to the one offered by Buffer, but offers 3,000 credits with 300 additional credits per social media account. This allows for more AI-driven suggestions.
Buffer’s AI assistant can provide users with personalized content ideas across all social media channels. This streamlines the creation of content. It can also suggest content based upon brand, audience, and industry. It can even suggest captions and hashtags for images.
7. Link in bio tools
Buffer and Tailwind offer similar tools for linking in bios, but there are differences between them. Buffer’s Start Page is compatible with Twitter, Facebook Pinterest, Instagram LinkedIn and YouTube. Tailwind’s smart.bio, however, is only designed for Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook. Buffer offers additional integrations such as Spotify to show playlists or podcasts, and YouTube to display videos.

Summary
I am a Buffer user, so I’m not impartial. But I have tried to show how Buffer is different from Tailwind in this blog.
The Buffer free plan is more flexible and accessible, while the paid plan provides robust features and analytics that support businesses with their social media efforts.
Buffer takes pride in offering exceptional support, an intuitive yet powerful interface and a platform that is reliable.
Let’s be honest. Buffer is a great tool, but it’s not the same as actually using it.
